Math at the Primary
Math at the Primary is so much fun! We take a hands-on approach to teaching mathematics in our classrooms. Teachers use music and movement, manipulatives, games, paper/pencil activities, and technology to teach math concepts.
We currently use the Bridges in Mathematics program to help us teach the Missouri Learning Standards in Mathematics. This math series is very focused, effective, and problem-solving-based. It is research-based, and aligns well with the MLS. Bridges uses visual models, cooperative discussions about numbers, manipulatives, and games to help develop students' strong skills and a love of math.
Mathematic concepts that your child will be exposed to at the Primary School are: number sense, place value, calendar skills, addition, subtraction, money, time, measurement, geometry, fractions, graphing. Our biggest priority before sending students to third grade is that students are fluent in addition and subtraction facts through 20. Kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers all work hard to prepare our students to be problem-solving thinkers who do their best every day.
