Announcement

Dear Southern Boone School District Families,

Due to the forecasted dangerously cold temperatures and extremely low wind chills, the Southern Boone School District WILL NOT have in-seat instruction on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025. Instead, we will implement an Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI)/Virtual Learning Day for all students and staff.

Your child’s teacher and/or building principal already has or soon will be sharing details about procedures and expectations for AMI Days in an email. Additional information is available online at sbschools.us/ami.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. Tuesday morning's temperatures are expected to be exceptionally low, posing significant risks to students waiting at bus stops or walking to school. According to the National Weather Service, exposed skin can suffer frostbite in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions.

As of now, the district has used all six traditional snow days built into the 2024-2025 district calendar. To ensure uninterrupted learning, we have five Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) or Virtual Learning Days available to use this school year. Moving forward, any additional days when school cannot be held due to inclement weather will be designated as AMI/Virtual Learning Days for students and staff. Using AMI Days allows us to maintain our instructional schedule without requiring make-up days during already scheduled breaks or extending the school year.

Additional information about the school district’s inclement weather communication and procedures is available online at sbschools.us/weather.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and the school district.

Yours in Education,

Dr. Tim Roth
School Superintendent
