AMI Days, Snow Days and Inclement Weather Make-Up Plan
The school district has used all five Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Days available for the 2024-2025 school year and has used all six traditional snow days built into this year's district calendar. Any additional weather-related school closures will be traditional snow days that must be made up.
The district’s proposed plan is to use Friday, April 18th, and Monday, April 21st, as possible make-up days, pending approval from the Southern Boone Board of Education. These dates were chosen to preserve the full week of spring break in March and to minimize extending the school year beyond Memorial Day Weekend.
Two-Hour Late Start

Middle & High School: 9:20 AM

Snow Day: Making the Decision
One of the hardest decisions a superintendent makes is whether or not to call off school due to weather. Multiple factors determine the decision, but it comes down to an informed, subjective judgment call. Though it might seem like a simple task, we follow a process each time the threat of inclement weather is imminent.
Considerations prior to closing school:
Road conditions, both main roads and secondary roads
Bus stop safety
Buses running on time, delays
Bus turnarounds, likelihood of accident or breakdowns
Temperatures
Forecast
Timing of precipitation
Condition of school building bus and parking lots at the time of arrival or dismissal
The district consults with:
Transportation Department
Boone County Emergency Management Office
National Weather Service (St. Louis)
Neighboring School Districts
State, County, and City Road Departments
Your family’s safety and timely updates remain our top priorities. If you as a parent feel it is unsafe to have your child(ren) attend school in person, please know that decision continues to be yours, one the school district will respect.
